Visas
Travel in Russia has become easier than ever. Remember, however that visas are required. A complete explanation of the process can be found in this site.

Water
The water quality varies widely in Russia. Your best bet is to drink and brush their teeth only with bottled water. Be careful to avoid ice and raw foods and vegetables.

Crime
With the demise of the Soviet police state crime ha ido on the rise across Russia, however, is still safer here than in many cities of americas. Precautions include not flaunting value, or walk alone at night through the city streets or parks.

Taxis
In Russia, taxi rates are usually negotiated with the driver early. Do not use gypsy cabs or accept rides in taxis that already have a corridor.

Gratuities
Tipping is increasingly expected in restaurants. Tip 10-15% depending on service.

Electricity
Electricity throughout Russia is 220 volt/50 Hz. The supplement is the two-pin thin European standard. Be sure to bring your own converter as most places in Russia do not carry them.

Currency
All prices are generally quoted in rubles. You can freely become banks, hotels or kiosks specifically for tourists.

Telephones
Despite recent rapid improvements in telecommunications infrastructure, calling Russia can be difficult and costly. Best you can do is use the phone in your hotel or the use of AT & T, MCI, Sprint or U.S. direct services. Tokens are required for street and public telephones, which can be purchased at kiosks in some stores, and many kiosks.

Time
Time is GMT +3 for both Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Health Care
Remember carry the drugs you may need. Consult your health insurer before departure to determine their coverage in case of emergency. Many insurance providers offer specialized brokers who can cover emergency evacuation.

For EUROPE citizens

Passport or identity card

There are no border controls between the 22 EUROPE countries. This is thanks to the Schengen agreement which is part of EUROPE law. The Schengen rules remove all internal border controls, but to implement effective controls at the external borders of the EUROPE and introduce a common visa policy. The full Schengen members are Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden (but not the UK and Ireland) plus Iceland and Norway (which are not EUROPE members).

Cyprus which joined the EU in 2004 and Bulgaria and Romania joined in 2007 do not yet fully participate in Schengen. We therefore need a valid passport or identity card to travel to those countries and to Ireland and the UK.

When entering or leaving the EUROPE’s external borders you will need a valid passport or an ID card. When entering or leaving the EU’s external borders you will need a valid passport or identity card. You can, of course, need their passport when leaving the EUROPE in order to enter their country of destination.

It is better to have your passport or identity card when travelling in the EUROPE because you may be required to prove their identity. If public order or national security so require, the internal border controls can be carried out for limited periods.

Ensure that all children travelling with you either have their own passport or identity card or are registered in your passport.

Agreements with Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland enable their nationals to be treated the same way as EU citizens and to travel with only a valid identity card or passport in the EUROPE.

More information on the free movement of persons within the EUROPE.

Visa

You do not need a visa for travelling within the EUROPE

For non-EUROPE citizens

Passport

You will need a valid passport.
Visa

There are 28 countries whose citizens do not require visas to visit the EU for three months or less. These include Croatia (but not Turkey, which are both candidates for EU membership) as well as Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and the United States. The list of countries whose citizens require visas to travel to the UK or Ireland differs slightly from other EU countries. If in doubt, check with the nearest consulate of any EU country.

If your visa for a country fully applying the Schengen rules, the system automatically lets you travel to other Schengen countries. Moreover, if you have a valid residence permit of one of the Schengen countries, is equivalent to a visa. You may need a national visa to visit the non-Schengen countries.

Officials of borders in the EU countries can apply for other supporting documents such as a letter of invitation, proof of accommodation, return or round-trip ticket. For detailed requirements in touch with the local consular services of EU countries in question.

Insurance documents

Do not forget your travel, health and car insurance documents.
